A true academician and a visionary who believes in the philosophy of taking along one and all in his endeavour to elevate the standard of legal education, has earned the degree of Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.) from Burdwan University, Burdwan in 1983. He practiced at the Bar till 1988 when he took the call to pursue Master’s Degree in law. He was conferred the degree of Legum Magister (LL.M.) from Burdwan University, Burdwan in 1991.
He has submitted Ph.D. thesis on “Environmental Law & Human Rights; An Empirical Study in the Coal Belt Areas of West Bengal” to the Burdwan University, Burdwan. He is associated with this College since August 2002 and before joining this institution he worked in the capacity of a Guest Lecturer at the Department of Law, Burdwan University from 1993 to 2001. His area of specialization includes Constitutional Law and Environmental Law.
Dr. Chattopadhyay has attended Refreshers Course 2006 and Orientation Programme 2008 being conducted by the Universities of Calcutta and Burdwan respectively. He has also been invited as a Speaker at the National Seminar organized by the National Human Rights Commission at Burdwan University on 27/09/2008.
